need a new monitor

I'm fed up with washed out colours, uneven levels of brightness and pityfully tiny viewing angles. I've been drooling over EIZO [link] but maybe I need to look at something under $1K XD Some Dells look not bad.

What can y'all tell me about monitors? What brands are worth looking at?

Oh look my current NEC can be had on ebay for $69. Guess selling that won't help me out much. XD
